AHS Graduate Pays Visit to Alma Mater on Veterans Day in a Helicopter

On the Friday morning of Veterans Day, on a patch of grass just south of the AHS Baseball fields, the quiet was interrupted by the thunder of the blades of a U.S. Air Force UH-1N Iroquois “Huey” helicopter that completed its journey to the patch of grass.

The aircraft was manned by a four-person crew from the 40th Helicopter Squadron based at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana that included 2015 AHS graduate, Capt. Tom Whittington.

The helicopter landing was a unique experience for the crowd of AHS Marine Corps JROTC cadets and students who gathered to watch the landing and then checked out the helicopter’s interior on the first day of Veterans Day weekend.

Capt. Whittington enjoyed a special Veterans Day treat as he was also greeted by his parents Chris and Jennifer Whittington.

The event was hosted through the Marine Corps JROTC program at Allen High School, led by SgtMaj. Bruce Cole and MGySgt. Demetrius Bell.
